When it comes to designing a room, one of the most important things we can do as designers, is show you samples. Designing for your home is more than just a visual experience, it’s about considering other senses like touch and sound to ensure you get the finishes that best suit you and your space. I am a really tactile kinda gal, I have to touch every finish ( is it just me? 🧐😁) because what looks perfect online can feel all wrong in real life. What if you choose the perfect LOOKING fabric but it feels rough to the touch? What if you choose a tile but it’s actually glossy and will reflect too much light. By using samples, we as designers, can help you experience our visions through real products and physical touch to create and refine the best scheme possible for you and your home. Honesty post incoming - I love Instagram (most of the time) it’s entertaining, inspiring and sometimes downright weird and I love that. It’s awesome that you get to connect with people you would probably never meet in day to day life and your little corner of Instagram becomes a wonderful community of random, like minded people that you really treasure. BUT, Instagram seems to really dislike small businesses, especially ones who don’t post often and don’t like to put themselves in the posts, and as you may have noticed, I’m guilty of both crimes, but I am working on it. What this means is with the recent Instagram changes, you will see even less of the accounts you follow as they push creators and content you don’t follow. It’s so tough right now for many businesses so your support here means so much to us. Every post I put on here to do with my work has a lot of time and effort put into it, I want to bring you all the best of me, always, which is why I won’t just post anything just for posting sake because you all deserve the best. Design for pre-loved treasures - Hey loves, how have you been? It’s been a while! I’ve missed you all BUT I’m back today with a special post and it’s dedicated to my love for designing homes around timeworn treasures.

One of the most exciting parts of my job is being asked to design around clients existing antique, vintage or preloved pieces and I absolutely love doing it. There is something tangible felt in the body when a room has these timeworn treasures, a sensation of connection and authenticity, like the pieces are people, desperate to tell you all the stories behind the scars they bare from a life well lived.

Now I’m not saying new stuff can’t be great, really good design can make you feel just as excited and connected as antiques and vintage pieces, but my passion will always be for heritage homes and finding ways to combine history and home to create soulful interiors that feel authentically you and this gorgeous bedroom features a host of antique and vintage items that showcase a beautiful collection that’s as unique as it is old.

Where am I Wednesday - Living on the edge of Dartmoor means when I get the chance, I can escape with Duke the pooch and just disappear for a while to settle my senses and see what a little exploring finds. I don’t know if anyone else is feeling overwhelmed with the world and life right now. It’s all a little relentless and quiet frankly, soul destroying isn’t it? But there’s always hope in the hills, and although I may not have found the answers to any problems today, a little Goonies style adventure has boosted my energy and lifted my spirit and that, I’m counting as a win. Today I walked from Clearbrook along the Drakes leat. Built in the late 16th century by Sir Francis Drake, it fed water from the River Meavy on Dartmoor down into Plymouth. Dazzle - Devonport’s festival of light, creativity and heritage. I had a fantastic time last night in Devonport, celebrating community and creatives coming together to show how important our past is on guiding and inspiring us to create innovative ways to make a better future. Showcasing Plymouths Maritime history alongside the spirit of the local community, it was lovely to see families and friends, together, enjoying the experience and connecting over a shared love for our city. Hey loves, happy Friday! I hope this week has been a good one for you all. So today I get to share a project with you that I had the pleasure of being part of and the building really is something special. A former police station that is being lovingly renovated by its owners, @oldpolicestation is a great example of how you can combine traditional and contemporary design elements to create interior schemes that express your style and the homes heritage without making it feel like you are living in a museum. The clients had a firm handle on the project and had already commissioned the incredible @parkerhowley_n_co unit, but were unsure on some finishes to unify the scheme after a previous bad experience with tile selections. By combining @mandarinstoneofficial Zappa white Terrazzo effect porcelain tiles for the floor with @bakedtileco 1860 Kensington gardens decor tiles for the shower and @jamesharefabric Suzani stripe fabric for the blinds, the finished room has become a beautiful and elegant sanctuary for the owners to escape to and another room ticked off the renovation list for them. There is a saying that exploration is the essence of the human spirit, and by venturing into different lands and daring to try new things, we gain a greater appreciation for life and home, and I couldn’t agree more. A mini break to #copenhagen over Christmas was not only an amazing family break but a place that has also sparked design inspiration. From the beautiful architecture and history to the delicious cuisine and cosy colours found all over this amazing city, I can see why #hygge is one of the defining characteristics of Danish culture, you really can feel it everywhere. Hey loves, are we all feeling the Christmas spirit yet? I have to be honest, the last 4 weeks have been a busy whirlwind and I’m not feeling as festive as normal. I’ve also found I’m not alone, with others I’ve spoken to saying they are feeling the same for many different reasons. There is something to be said for making an effort though, even if your spirit wants to hibernate away from the stresses and pressures of Christmas. Having decorated the house and tree, listened to some Christmas songs and eaten some naughty treats, I’m feeling a little more “Santa baby” and less “bah humbug”. It’s been a bit like going to the Gym, you always feel better after doing it, it’s just pushing yourself to do it in the first place.
